Random etsy stuff and my 2 fave blogs

Here are two super darling needlepoint bambi pillows that I found thrifting this weekend.

How cute are those.  Completely done, just needing to be framed or made into pillows  Both are 12 x 11 inches with about an 1 to 1 1/2 around all 4 edges.  They will be in my etsy shop if you are interested.

Next I wanted to see if I could get some comments are your 1 to 2 go to blogs.  Blogs you can't live without and may have just discovered them or maybe they aren't that well known.  I probably have 100 blogs that I look at daily, but my two that I can't live without are whatever  I would like to be her next door neighbor and just go thrifting with her and drink coffee, even though I don't drink coffee.  Just a fun blog that you never know what it will be about that day.  My 2nd is new to me.  It's Iowa girl eats.  It's a foodie blog ( which I'm not into) and an exercise blog ( which I am doubly not into), but it's a fun read and she has lots of tips and tricks.  I do not want to live next door to her because I'm sure she would always want me to go running with her, but I might get good leftovers.  Anyways both of these blogs are fun.  Please post your faves in the comments so we can all find a new love.

A reminder of spring

It's been so warm around here, I almost don't have the winter blues.  Almost.  It's nice out but everything is still brown.  So I decided to make myself a little flower to cheer myself up.  Here is the finished product.

Isn't the flower cute!  I was trying to take a picture of myself wearing it, which is hard to do.  So if the smile looks halfhearted it's not, it's just that there are a million things going on.

This flower took me exactly 5 min. to make.  It is insanely easy.  Plus you just need scraps.

I started out with a piece of felt cut in a circle in the size I wanted.  Notice it's not a perfect circle, it doesn't matter.  Yah!  Then from the outside in I started stapling scraps of material around the edges.  The outside in part is crucial.  If you go from the center out you have to fiddle with the material too much.  So outside in.  You can attach this anyway you want.  I chose staples because it seemed easier, but you can hot glue, hand stitch, machine stitch.  Whatever you feel most comfortable with.

Okay now all the strips are in place.  Mostly the staples are hidden.  I'm not worried about the center ones because my flower will hide those, the outside ones I removed the staple and hot glued them in place.

Don't worry that staple is gone in the next step.  I glued a pink rosette in the center.  You can also use a vintage button.  Make a flower out of rick rack.  The possibilities are endless.

After this phase I cut out another circle of felt and glued it to the back.  I didn't want any staples to snag my outfits and attached a pin.

I have a few spots in my house that I always change for each season or holiday.  My entry way buffet, my mantle, my dining room table, my china hutch in my kitchen and a 16x 20 picture frame in my kitchen.  Today I am going to show a few of those.  Believe it or not I'm not done yet, sigh. And my special love gift to you, is that you will notice my christmas tree is still up.  Yep, I haven't taken it down yet.

Here is my picture frame.  I usually get my free printables from eighteen 25.  But while looking on pinterest I found this baby and it was love at first sight.

I love the colors, I love the Bible verse, everything.  Here is the link so you can get it too, if you want.

I'm not much of a pink girl.  I love it to wear and in other things, just not in my house.  So I try to avoid it as much as possible.  It's hard for valentine's day but I think this printable and other things I've incorporated do the trick.

Here is my candle scape on my dining table.

I just kept it the same as usual but added a piece of red velvet that was lying around.  Plus see that tree in the background?  Just keeping it real.

The mantle

I kept the buckets from Christmas.  I am putting large tall galvanized buckets for the rest of the year.  They are currently sitting in my backyard seasoning (I hope), I want them to look old.  But I liked the sparkle from these for v day.  The red hearts I made from the red velvet material on my dining table.  A very easy craft.  I just recently received alot of milk glass from my aunt and I want to keep these on the mantle and just fill with different things from each season.

I couldn't get a decent picture of my china hutch.  Plus I'm not loving it. I would love to find some silver leafed little love birds, do you know of any?  I've looked at the dollar store and thriftstores.  I can silver leaf myself but haven't seen any.  I was hobby lobby yesterday also.  So please leave a comment if you know of a good place to get them.

Flea market finds

This weekend I went to a local flea market and as I was innocently walking around I noticed this.

It was love at first sight.  I couldn't not buy it.  I didn't know where I would put it, but it had to be mine.  I'm sure you understand.  It ended up at the top of my stairs.  I wanted it downstairs, because I have teenagers and I only go upstairs when smells start drifting down.  Gross I know, but true.  So I put it at the top of the landing so that I can gaze up at it's loveliness every day.  The pictures a little blurry, but isn't it pretty? sigh.  The quilt was made by my mom, the picture was another flea market find from about 2 years ago.  I want to somehow hang a mirror and put something on the top shelf.  But for right now she is perfect.

Another great find is this silver plated tray.

I loved the shape and the patina.  It will have chalkboard paint in the center and it has already been claimed by my kids youth pastor's wife.  Who loved it but wanted to pay for it.  Crazy girl, don't they know how much we appreciate their love for our kids?

This weekend I am hoping to start making curtains for my house.  I have 2 panels to make for my daughters room and 4 for my family room, so expect a tutorial.

chandy pic tutorial

Hi everyone.  Here is my tutorial on these chandy canvases.

If you go to hobby lobby or other craft stores it seems like these canvases are always on sale

It's either this look or some cats or a butler with coffee.  They are about 12 inches by 12 inches and if you see beyond the design, you realize they are very sturdy and can be remade into what you want.  I always have about 6 of these on hand for projects.  They usually cost me about 2 bucks.  Not bad for the size.  Sometimes I need to prime them but since I am using thick drop cloths, the design doesn't show through.

I love screen printing, if I don't have to make the screen.  It's very easy.  I bought this premade screen of a chandeleir at hobby lobby and the simply screen paint.  I place the screen exactly where I want it, tape it in place and then squeeze some paint around the design.  Using the the paint scraper I spread the paint across the design until the whole design is filled in. You may have to go back and forth a few times.  This gives alot more detail then stenciling so you need to make sure all the little details are covered.  Once you lift the screen your done.  Be careful lifting it to, because you don't want paint to fall.

Then you need to clean the screen under warm tap water and place it on paper towels to dry before you use it again.  It dries pretty fast.

After your done it needs to dry for 24 hours.  Then you use a pressing cloth and iron on high heat without steam.  At this point I add the hot fix crystals where I want them and just heat them up.  They last forever.

The trickiest part is stapling this onto the canvas.  I discovered that if I put a few pins in and then flipped it over, I could keep it centered while I stapled.  Remember to do all four sides in one spot and pull the fabric taut and then go back and restaple the rest.

There are just so many possibilities for this.  Letters, printed images, etc.

healthy guacamole recipe

Since thanksgiving I have taken on a secret identity.  My whole family is unaware of my new activities.  I have been secretly changing recipes by adding extra greens and substituting fatty ingredients with healthy.  Sometimes they notice and I quickly fess up and act like it was a one time thing, but some they haven't noticed.  This recipe is one of them.  It's delicious!

Lisa's undetectably healthy guacamole

3 avocados, 4 if they are small
 1/2 cup plain greek yogurt
1 package of pre made pico de gallo, mines in the veggie section
3-4 turnip green leaves
1 tbsp salt.  The salt is key to good guacamole

Blend ingredients in the food processor.

I love this recipe, the only fats are from the avocado.  Greek yogurt is very high in protein and low in fat.  Also according to the piece of paper at whole foods, turnip greens are the highest in antioxidants.  Much higher then blueberries or other greens.  So I sneak those suckers into everything I can.  Hopefully this recipe will work for you.

I know I promised a tutorial but it will have to wait.  It is very dark and dreary in Tx today.  I didn't have enough sunshine for a project.

new crafts and a new day!

Hello my fun followers!

How has your sunday gone so far?

Mine went great?  I don't know if I have ever shared this but I work at my church.  I'm on staff in the children's dept.  I have the best job imaginable.  Really I do.  I get to decorate all 3 stages for our children's church.  Every month.  I paint signs, banners, decorate and generally have alot of fun.  Plus I work everyother sunday as a coordinator for grades 3,4 and 5.  Love the kids.  Today was not my week, but I thought it was.  Have you ever done that?  I felt pretty lame, but the truth it's the best thing that could have happened because I acutally went to the worship service.  I never get to do that.  I shouldn't say get to, I should more precisely say chose to.  I could every other week if I wanted.  But I have become lazy and have stopped.  Today was on proverbs one and wisdom.  Boy was the reminder needed. All of us need fellowship.  If your attendance has gotten a little sloppy I encourage you to return.  That's the beauty of grace, we always get a restart.

Okay now on to crafting.  My husband and kids camp together a couple of times a year. This was the weekend, so I socialized with friends alot!  Plus did alot of crafting.  While I was socializing I went to a local antique store and found this basket.

I thought it was a super cute display item for my new shop.  The crafting part was of course the hearts.  I made some out of velvet, silk, chenille, linen and canvas.  I think I made 10 total.  It took all day.  They will be in my etsy shop tomorrow and I will sell some at my actual shop.

Here's some more in a different container.  I watched the notebook and listened to music and just thoroughly enjoyed myself.

Another craft I worked on was this canvas.

I made these in 3 different colors.  They are screenprinted and need to be stretched on a canvas and blinged up a bit.  I will finish these up tomorrow and show them with a tutorial.

So I am praying ( I really do pray for my followers) that you are having a good day, or if it's yucky it's for a good purpose and it doesn't linger.  Bye my friends
