randomness

Today I got this in the mail

Sorry about the glare.

It was 82 degrees in texas today.  Not the norm.  Yesterday it was 80.  It was so beautiful.  I'm starting to get ready for spring because I can't help myself.

Here's part of my spring mantle.  I can not express how much I love cheap milk glass.  I'm visiting my sister in a few weeks in Mn.  I plan to buy at least 5 pieces and they will probably total a dollar.  Here it would be over 25.00.

Today my 17 yr old presented me with plans to graduate 6 months early.  He wants to go on a 3 or 4 month missions trip before he starts college.  If I scream, " I'm not ready"!  Would you judge me?  Cuz I'm not ready.  He turns 18 before his senior year starts but I really wasn't planning on him doing this. I'm proud of him though, just not ready.

new family photo wall

I've been wanting to do a few family photo walls around my house.  I used to have pictures all over tabletops, but I really like them in a grouping on the wall.  I think it gives a better chance to really look at them.

We have a little hall that you walk down to use our guest bathroom.  Here is the wall before.  Sorry about the blurry picture.

Pretty horrible picture and picture grouping.  I don't know if you remember but a few weeks ago I started painting some little stuff to add to the wall.

My cherry red b.

My very emotional 5, which symbolizes our family is enlarging through adoption.

So here is the completed wall.  I'm pretty happy with it.

The faith frame is for a picture of our girl, when she gets here.  They are a little askew and will probably always be that way, but I am satisfied with it.

tinkerbell bustle skirt

Hi my faithful followers.  I have been very busy and not posting.  I have missed it so much.  So glad to be back.

Awhile back I came across this tutorial from simple simon and knew I wanted to make it.

bustle skirt tutorial

I changed it up a bit but basically used this as the basic design and here it is:

I made mine with pink lame.  My sweet niece loves tinkerbell.  I envisioned a purple and lime green number to go with the tshirt, but she was insistent it had to be pink.  I love the fullness.  I love the shine.   I want one!

See how full it is?  It was not hard to make at all, just repetitious.  If you aren't interested in sewing 100's of pink lame circle to a skirt then I will be selling this set in my etsy shop in the next few days.  tshirt included.

I pulled her aside in the middle of playing and said try this on and see what you think.  I think she likes it.

Monday monday

This weekend I made a few silver chalkboard trays fom my store.

Then I decided I wanted to avoid making my new family room curtains for another few days and started to rework a family photo wall.  I like family walls when all the frames are the same, but the pictures are all over the place and there are other items added, like an initial or the number of people in the family.  Stuff like that.  So I went to hobby lobby to get a b.

It was 2 bucks.  It was originally gold but I painted it a cherry red.  I like it.  The frames are going to be white with white mats, so I think color from the pictures and then pops of color will look nice.  Then I went off to find a four somewhere and that's where I lost it!  I realized I needed a 5, because as many of you know we are adopting.

It's not done yet, it needs to be modpodged and straightened out.  But aside from that the number 5 blew me away.  I almost felt like I was going to get caught buying the wrong number.  Like I was committing a crime.  As many of you know I have been praying for this child for 14 years.  14 years asking God to change my husband's heart towards adoption.  He's not opposed to adoption, he was just done with two.  Two is more then enough, unless you ached to adopt, and I ached!

Praying for along time for anything can get taxing.  I'm sure everyone has something that they long for, a change in a relationship, a longing for something you can't make happen, someone's health.  It is a painful but hopeful process.  Honestly I lost hope.  I turned 48 and thought ok I guess I better start praying for God to take this desire away because my husband's not interested.  While praying for that my husband called to ask me if I was still interested in this adoption thing.  God amazes me!  So this weekend I bought a five and I bawled like a baby for all the world to see while I was doing it.  But I didn't care because I feel like Sarah, laughing that God would allow this to happen so late in life but so amazed at His grace that He would.  5 is a beautiful number.

Tomorrow night we start taking our classes.  I am longing for my 10 to 12 year old girl.  I don't know what color her eyes are, or her skin, or her hair.  Whether she likes to play dolls or would rather climb a tree, but I know she's mine.  She's been through pain and heartbreak and I can't heal that, but I know who can and I intend to tell her about all the prayer and love that has been waiting for her from before she was even born.  Adoption is beautiful, but just like anything worthwhile you have to wait, and pray and allow God to work.

burlap flower

I made this yesterday with the same technique I used for my flower 2 days ago.  I just used a different pallette.  This is very vintage.  Made from velvet ribbons, linens and burlap material.  The center button is from the fifties and I have been dying to use it in a project.  This can be put on an existing linen or burlap pillow, purse, or worn as a pin.  It is pretty big 6 inches by 6 inches.

thanks for looking.
